The company was founded in January 2007 based on an
idea that was developed by Mr. Shlomo Abadi. When Mr. Abadi's
prematurely born son was discharged from the neonatal intensive
care unit at the age of three and a half months he was instructed
by the physicians to place him on his back to prevent sudden
infant death and advised by the physiotherapist to lay him on
his stomach in order to boost his development. After a prolonged
investigation, Mr. Abadi could not find a sleeping surface that
facilitates free airflow through it and enable placing his
son face down, safely. The first archetypes were built with the
technical support of Mr. Shimon Avisar.

In October 2005, Dr Avner Goren, a pediatrician and specialist
in allergy and clinical immunology (Sheba Medical Center, Tel
Hashomer, Israel) was consulted regarding the need for a
mattress which would enable free air flow through the mattress
surface in order to prevent infant suffocation. The need for
such technology was substantiated by Dr. Goren, who
speculated, in addition, that the porous structure of the netting
would also prevent the survival of dust mites on the mattress
surface. The unique qualities of the new mattress were able
to assist in tackling two major issues in pediatric medicine –
sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and asthma and other
allergic diseases. The company was established in 2007
with the vision of developing the ideal sleep surface for
infants, children adolescents and adults. Initial efforts
have bee focused on infants.

A physiological study on a model
of a breathing infant whose purpose was
to assess air flow through the mattress surface.
The experiments were performed by Dr. Ephraim
Bar-Yishay, in the Pulmonary Laboratory, Hadassah
Hospital, Jerusalem, Israel. The results showed that
the meshed netting allowed free air flow through the
mattress surface, with minimal resistance and
dramatically reduced accumulation of carbon
dioxide - CO2.

A parasitological study whose aim was to
assess the ability of house dust mites to survive on
the mattress surface. The experiments were done by
Dr Kosta Mumcuoglu, in the Parasitology Laboratory,
Hadassah Hospital, Jerusalem, Israel. The results
proved that there was total inhibition of dust mite
survival on the new netting as opposed to normal
mattresses on which dust mites not only survived,
but reproduced.
Israel's largest and most reputable infant and juvenile product developer, manufacturer,
importer, and distributor was chosen for marketing and distribution.

The project was given financial support through the "Tnufa" foundation, Head Scientist, Ministry of Industry and Trade. This support
is intended for inventors, entrepreneurs and start-up companies during the initial phase toward the realization of their ideas.

The Child Development Company, developer and manufacturer of AirNetress, is dedicated to developing products that will help
solve basic health and development problems in infants and children. The company's intention is to expand research and
development in the areas of creating a safer sleep environment, preventing allergic diseases, improving early infant development
and other issues in orthopedics and enuresis. The company plans to expand its activity to include products for juveniles and adults.
