Free
flow of fluids and digested food through the surface of Nettress
and the ability to raise the head of the mattress decrease
spitting up and prevent inhalation of regurgitated food.
The classical presentation of uncomplicated Gastroesophageal
Reflux (GER) in infants is effortless, painless vomiting in
a well appearing infant with normal growth. Usually simple
parental education and reassurance is all that is needed.
Thickening the baby formula is a simple measure. Elevation
of the infant’s upper body is another measure good for
reducing GER.
The ability to change the mattress angle and the unique quality
Nettress' porous netting which enables liquids including regurgitated
food and vomit to flow through the bottom of the mattress
are important for treating GER.
Changing the mattress angle allows the baby's head and trunk
to be raised, thus reducing regurgitation especially when
combined with special or thickened infant formula. In addition
since regurgitated food and mucus seep through the sleep surface
the infant does not wake up in a "pool" of regurgitated
food and the risk of inhalation of the food is decreased.
